Seattle podcaster & friend of SPN Jake Ludington is posting a series of interviews with people involved in projects represented at the 2006 Seattle International Film Festival. Jake has several of these SIFF posts up already at his Hollywood Reviews and Movie Trivia site, and promises more to come. Check ‘em out.

Rub virtual elbows with SIFF’s indie luminaries
Tuesday, May 30th, 2006Podcast with me at a couple of events?
Friday, May 26th, 2006We have a couple of events coming up in Seattle that should be fun.
The first is the TechCrunch Seattle Web 2.0 party, to be held at Consolidated Works (corner Republican and Boren), this Wednesday, May 31, from 6:30pm to 11pm. The good news is that it’s FREE… sponsored by local developer Redfin. Free beer, baby!
Whadaya say we bring some gear there like my newfangled M-Audio Microtrack, and do some podcasting from the party, to promote the group in the local Web 2.0 scene? Anyone interested in walking around and interviewing folks with me?
Second is Gnomedex, June 29-July 1 at the Bell Harbor Conference Center on Pier 66. I’m wondering if there’s some way to promote SPN at this event…any ideas?
The marketer in me feels like we should take advantage of these local events to boost our visibility, attract more folks, show our Seattle podcasting savvy and maybe get more listeners. Whadaya think?
I’ll be at both events. Anyone else attending? Please comment here.
Free SkypeOut Enables Cheap Podcast Interviews
Monday, May 15th, 2006Skype just announced that they are going to offer free SkypeOut until the end of 2006 inside the United States and Canada. Many Podcasters are using Skype to enable affordable interviews with people from around the globe. With SkypeOut, podcasters can call an interviewee on a regular telephone – making it fairly simple to record the interview on the computer for use in a podcast. While the calls weren’t particularly expensive to begin with, this new offer adds one more incentive to give it a try. According to Henry Gomez, General Manager of Skype North America:
“Millions of consumers around the world are flocking to Skype every month, and we believe free SkypeOut calling will rapidly accelerate Skype adoption in the US and Canada,” said Henry Gomez, General Manager, Skype North America. “We’re very excited to be bringing Skype’s convenience and voice quality to so many people for free.”
May ’06 Seattle Podcaster Meetup – Mix’d Rane
Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006The May Meetup of Seattle Podcasters rocked the Pyramid Alehouse in Seattle last night. A lot of the usuals showed up, as well as quite a few newbies. It was great to hear about everyone’s new adventures in podcasting, and to share a bit of knowledge here and there.
Special thanks to Dean Standing of Rane Corporation for demonstrating Rane’s MP 4 Mixer and Scratch Live Digital DJ software. Dean stayed around to listen and learn more about podcasting, and we hope some of what he absorbed will be useful back at Rane HQ.

Corporate Podcasting Summit announced
Monday, May 1st, 2006The UK-based First Conferences announced what appears to be the first enterprise-themed podcasting conference, to be held on June 20-21 in San Francisco. Many details are yet to be announced but it appears that several corporations including VW and Whirlpool have agreed to speak on the current efforts at corporate podcasting.
Also speaking will be Bill Flitter of RSS marketing firm Pheedo, and John Furrier, founder of the PodTech technology podcast.
Personally, I believe corporate podcasting is a great new customer touchpoint that has yet to take off, but will. But since corporate podcasting is still such a nascent space, the value of this conference remains to be seen.
Early-bird registration ends May 5th, 2006. Anyone want to join me?
