iLife ’06, SFX libraries & other resources for podcasters

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

I just picked up iLife ’06 last night at The Apple Store. There are some annoying things about the new version of Apple’s personal productivity suite (like their insistence on forcing the use of .Mac for several features), but one thing that I really like were the changes made to Garage Band. GB now includes several new features for podcasters, including chapter tools, drop-in photos, and a sound library.

This last feature I find especially welcome. Quality music beds and the judicious use of sound effects can make the difference between a podcast that sounds like you recorded it in your basement and one that sounds like you recorded it in your professional basement studio.

I’m always on the lookout for podcasting resources, and I bet you guys out there know of a bunch more than I do. I’ve started a new page on the wiki for Podcast Creation Resources. I’ll post links there to The Recordist, Freesound, FindSounds, Radio Daddy Voice Over Exchange, and PodcastThemes. Please help out by popping over and adding your links, tips, and advice, too.

Real Estate Listings as podcasts

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

As producer of the Seattle Real Estate Talk podcast, I figured it was only a matter of time before we saw something like this: PodcastRealty.com has developed a site to allow buyers to download audio descriptions of properties for sale. From the website:

Podcast Realty™ is the original and ONLY searchable real estate listing directory with downloadable audio listing descriptions as Podcasts. This is combined with digital photography, virtual tours and even videos. Now, knowing what’s available to buy, sell or rent anywhere in the world has been made even easier. You can now download or listen to real estate listing descriptions as described by the listing agents themselves on your computer anytime at your convenience. If you can download a song into your iPod, or any listening device you prefer, you can download our listings! Amazing, isn’t it? Podcast Realty™ has now made that possible.

We are Podcasting the very latest real estate listings via the Internet using mp3 audio files. Play from your computer or download to your listening device today! At Podcast Realty™ you can listen to HONEST and REAL property descriptions directly from the listing agents themselves. Here you’ll only find LICENSED Realtors®. We link you directly to the listing agents on each downloadable description for easy access to all of the information on the property of your choice.

Now, how long until we get something like this in Seattle?

Podcast Ad Network Launched by Kiptronic

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

Kiptronic has launched a platform designed to help introduce podcasters to sponsors as well as deliver ads via their ad serving technology. On the surface, it appears that the podcaster maintains a decent level of control. One has the ability to screen the sponsors as they see fit and there is no long term agreement that must be adhered to. Ads from accepted sponsors are attached to the beginning or end of the file at download time (an intro clip can also be defined should you not wish to have an advertisement be the first thing your audience hears). Spoken word sponsorships are also supported.
Find our more at Kiptronic.com.
