What is podcasting?

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

Podcasting allows anyone to be their own broadcaster. With little more than a computer, a microphone, and an Internet connection, individuals can create media and have it accessed by audiences all over the world. By publishing media via an RSS feed, content is aggregated across the Internet to all who subscribe whenever that content is updated.

Contrary to popular belief, an Ipod (or portable audio device of any kind) is not required to subscribe and listen to podcasts. However, the explosive growth in the portable media device market has definitely fueled the popularity of this medium. Because Podcast content seamlessly synchronizes with a large variety of portable devices, individuals can listen to unique content (from anywhere in the world) while on the go.
