Digigirlz Try Out Podcasting

This week I had the pleasure of helping with a Digigirlz Technology Camp Podcast Workshop. The camp was hosted at the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, and the Podcast Workshop was hosted at Microsoft Studios. In the workshop, the girls received a brief introduction to podcasting, then broke into small groups to spend approximately twenty-five minutes crafting and rehearsing a brief show. Following the prep period, the teams took turns cycling into the voice-over booth to record their masterpieces. The results were great and can be found here: http://digigirlzshow.spaces.live.com/

These guys are learning how to create their own media, and we’ve been talking with them about the podcasting scene. Melodeo and AllTel Give you “Axcess” to Podcasts On Your Mobile Phone
Monday, August 14th, 2006AllTel Wireless and Melodeo Inc have just made it easier to access podcasts via mobile phones via the launch of the Axcess Mobilcast Service. Thousands of podcasts are available to Alltel Wireless customers via their mobile phones for a monthly subscription fee of $3.99. The programs being made available (from well know media brands as well as indie podcasters) are short in duration and cover a wide range of genres. According to the Axcess Mobilcast press release:
Axcess Mobilcast is currently available on several popular Alltel phones. A simple interface allows listeners to browse categories or search programs with no wait time. Podcasts are streamed or downloaded and can be added to the “My Favorites” channel with one click.

Podcasters from all over the world are invited to submit two of their programs to be evaluated on energy, creativity, and originality. The winner of the contest will receive an MP4 integrated high quality sound card and audio mixer (valued at $800) from Rane Corporation.
The contest is open for entries from July 15th through August 31st. During the entry submission period, we’ll make two shows about the contest and the mixer available as part of the Seattle Podcasting Network’s official podcast. Podcast Awards Open for Nominations
Tuesday, July 4th, 2006The 2006 People’s Choice Podcast Awards are officially open for nominations. The 2005 Awards Ceremony was the highlight of the Portable Media Expo last year in Ontario, California (it was like podcasters had their own Academy Awards), and I suspect it will be an enjoyable event this year as well. Awards will be given in categories such as Peoples Choice, Best Produced, Business, Comedy, Gaming, Food and Drink, and More. Make a point to vote for your favorite podcasts as these awards are your opportunity to honor your favorite podcasters for their efforts to inform and entertain.
